Technical Inspections
JASKO’s qualified staff conduct mandatory annual technical inspections for Certified Aerodromes.
All technical inspectors meet the standards required by the CASR 1998 Part 139 Section 139.075 and Part 139 MOS Section 12.10 and are carried out in accordance with the Part 139 MOS.
The technical inspection includes the following:
- an instrument survey of the approach, the take-off and the transitional surfaces, a check of other applicable surfaces associated with the OLS and a check of the aerodrome operator’s monitoring of the instrument approach procedure-critical obstacles
- an inspection and assessment of the movement area pavements, drainage and associated strips
- an inspection and assessment of visual aids on the aerodrome
- an inspection of equipment or facilities at the aerodrome used for wildlife hazard management and aerodrome emergencies
- a check of the currency and accuracy of aerodrome information published in the AIP
- a check of the currency and accuracy of aerodrome operating procedures specified in the aerodrome manual
- an inspection of airside vehicle control arrangements (if applicable)
- a check that personnel appointed as a reporting officer or works safety officer: have been trained and assessed and appear to be generally competent to carry out the required duties.
This service includes a report which notes the findings of the inspection and provides a true picture of the state of the aerodrome with respect to its compliance with applicable standards. The report also includes edited data for AIP publication, an obstacle list which notes obstacles recommended for removal or lopping, and a Corrective Actions Plan.
As part of our service, we provide a pre-written NOTAM for submitting to the NOTAM office and KML files which enable accurate identification of obstacles.

Obstacle Limitation Surface Surveys
JASKO’s qualified staff carry out mandatory annual OLS surveys for Certified Aerodromes to check for penetrations of surfaces. We also do OLS Surveys for uncertified aerodromes as required by the RFDS.
The surveys are done as part of technical inspections or can be provided as a stand-alone service. The OLS surveys are in accordance with Part 139 MOS requirements and include:
- an instrument survey of the approach, the take-off and the transitional surfaces;
- a check of other applicable surfaces associated with the OLS
- JASKO’s OLS surveys also include Inner Horizontal, Conical, Outer Horizontal, Baulked landing areas, Inner Transitional, VSS, OAS as appropriate;
- Survey of as-constructed pickups
- Ground survey of PAPI systems.

Electrical Inspections
JASKO’s licensed electrician, John Christian, carries out the inspection and testing of the aerodrome lighting and electrical reticulation systems. This inspection is the electrical technical inspection (ETI) component of the mandatory annual technical inspection and is carried out in accordance with the Part 139 MOS.
The ETI includes the following (Part 139 MOS Section 12.09(3):
(a) visual aids on the movement area;
(b) apron floodlighting, including illumination of the apron and parking positions;
(c) illuminated wind direction indicators;
(d) pilot-activated lighting systems (if applicable);
(e) stand-by and emergency aerodrome lighting (if applicable);
(f) the visual approach slope indicator system (if applicable);
(g) approach lighting systems (if applicable);
(h) obstacle lights and beacons maintained by the aerodrome operator;
(i) any earthing points on the apron (if applicable).
JASKO’s ETI inspections include:
- Luminance test of lighting systems
- Condition of the switchboard
- Voltage, amp test and resistance to earth of the main circuit
- PAL and AFRU systems
- The currency of any relevant AIP
- Check of the PAPI levels
- Internal inspection of each individual light fitting for runways, taxiways, apron edge lighting fittings
- Washing of lenses and blowing out the interior of the light bases.
The ETI service includes a report which notes the findings of the inspection and provides a true picture of the state of the aerodrome with respect to its compliance with applicable standards, and a Corrective Actions Plan.
John meets the standards required by the CASR 1998 Part 139 Section 139.075 and Part 139 MOS Section 12.10.

AERODROME MANUAL VALIDATIONS
JASKO’s qualified staff conduct mandatory annual Aerodrome Manual Validations for applicable certified aerodromes in accordance with the Part 139 MOS Section 12.11.
The aerodrome manual validations include the following.
(a) a check of the approach, take-off, and transitional surfaces to ensure published aerodrome information is accurate to within 0.05% of the published gradient in the AIP-ERSA;
(b) a check of the other surfaces associated with the OLS;
(c) a check of the aerodrome operator’s monitoring of the instrument approach procedure critical obstacles;
(d) a check of the currency and accuracy of aerodrome information published in the AIP; and aerodrome operating procedures specified in the aerodrome manual and supporting documents;
(e) a check that each person appointed as a reporting officer or a works safety officer is trained and generally competent.
This service includes production of a report which notes the findings and includes a corrective action plan.
This service also includes a true picture of the OLS and the validity of the aerodrome manual and whether its procedures are being followed.
As part of our service, we provide a pre-written NOTAM for submitting to the NOTAM office and KML files which enable accurate identification of obstacles.
All inspectors meet the standards required by the CASR 1998 Part 139 Section 139.075 and Part 139 MOS Section 12.11(12).
